so nice to 'see' you all again... will do some reading and catch up on where people are at the moment... hope the years have been kind... we are 7 1/2 years in now... couldn't tell you where the time has gone... squirrel is 8, very sweet natured and easy going. just a very nice person. she's in year3 and has recently been diagnosed (after a lot of pushing) with dyscalulia...so maths and worries about maths are a challenge for her, but we are in the process of applying for an ehcp for her to get some specialist support in place for her. but she likes the rest of school and has some lovely friends and I think her default is happy. howler is 7, is kind, has an enormous heart and wears it on her sleeve. she had two lovely years at school, then this year has been bullied and has a pretty weak teacher who hasn't managed it well, so she's had a tricky year, that has made us think that we need to be very aware of her self esteem and anxiety as she gets older as she tends to bne very harsh on herself when things are hard. she's a beautiful runner and loves animals and the outside world with a great passion. curious George is 6 and in year 1... he had a very tricky year last year when he got to school and completely fell apart (nursery was very small and child led so he managed that very happily) it was a bit of a battle but he now has a full time EHCP, the worlds loveliest 1-1 and is ina nurture classroom for most of the school day which suits his needs far more. we still don't have a formal diagnosis, profs are duking it out as to whether its asd or attachment based... we've come to the conclusion that diagnosis are good for releasing funds, but the most important thing is concentrating on the areas where he struggles and putting things in place to work with things as they come up... it's been a battle, but I think he's got a good team supporting him now which is making a difference. they are all awesome little people. seeing where they struggle and trying to understand what it feels like for them being in a school-world that's always come easy to me has been very eye opening. they've taught me a lot about bravery( and how to find structures that will support them). these little people that keep on showing up to tough situations every day when they are still so small! I wonder whether the school system as it stands will be for them as they get older and i'm open to looking at alternatives to mainstream education. still feel like one of the luckiest people in the world that we are a family, with them all in school, I've just done an MA in creative writing and graduated this year and have finished the first draft of my first novel and am trying to knock it into some sort of shape. am writing for adults at the moment, but would like to do some children's books where the children are adopted, but that isn't the topic of the story, its just their background. i'm very aware that the only adopted characters that we come across tend to be all about the circumstances of their adoption. I want them to see different adopted children doing all sorts of different things, so they are used to seeing possibilities and opportunity. mr monkey was made redundant from a job he hates and now has a job he likes much better, is so mjuch more chilled and gets home much earlier, so is much more involved in knowing all the little day to day bits of the kids lives. so that's kind of where we are at the moment... feels very nice to be back

So wonderful to read your catchup....
I simply cannot believe that curious george is 6 & year 1.... howler 7 & squirrel 8 no way.... I do not believe it ( said in best Victor Meldrew tones) woweee where oh where has it gone?
So looking forward to hearing more....
We found primary a nightmare... the school was a failing environment my 2 struggled big time until they left....
Secondary has been a joy. -So Far-My 2 are funny, clever, marvelous, brave boys but secondary are brilliant a perfect fit & so get their many 'issues'. Finding the right school is a huge challenge but if got right worth its weight in gold, but sadly a very hard beast to track down xx
So good to see you back xxx
Fire away with school Q's I too feel a book coming on!?? 😨 ....
Do tell us the title, I can always find time for a good book xx 😉

Lovely to read your catch up Choti. As to us, I am still around here - not posting much. We moved 9 months ago and after some very rocky months are finally getting there with Sqk - who is 8 in 6 weeks on Friday. After a long and protracted saga (with old LA) he has an EHCP that means he is getting the 1:1 support he needs to keep him focused. Still chasing CAMHS over ADHD/ASD assessment and our PASW has disappeared so I need to chase that as well as we need some attachment focused therapy - and probably lifestory work. Just wish we could access the Therapeutic SW team in our current LA but for children in care or on edges of care only. But we are bumbling along and I am somehow still holding down a full time job - has helped house move means I am less than 10 mins walk from school or home at work and my line manager told me yoinks ago that he wasn't worried as my job was getting done He, and the guy in charge of my area have been well aware of how much I have been in and out over this academic year but given the relaxed nature of the university no-one else really has.

so very nice to hear from you all... just logging in and seeing everyone's user names made me smile moo, so glad to hear that the boys are enjoying secondary... v much know what you need about a fit... and its not just the school, different teachers make the world of difference. we have a brand new head who's passion is SEN, which is v different from the last headteacher who had been in situ for ages and was coasting towards retirement... starting to try and think about secondarys… v hard because all schools claim that they are excellent in all areas... would much rather they could be honest and say... we are brilliant at SEN but not so great for our g and t kids or we are super academic, and suit bright, resliant kids who thrive on competition but aren't strong on the arts, we're not great at supporting emotional development etc but they all confidently say oh yes we definitely are great at supporting everything... my friend bought me a 'watch out or you'll end up in my novel' t shirt, so I try to think of some of the really ineffectual characters we have met and think of them as fodder for my next book might have to borrow your 'pet- demon' phrase... always loved that! hi mudlark, lovely to hear from you gilreth - I always remember thinking about squeak because he and squirrel are the same age... house move sounds like a god send, time wise! and glad squeak has his 1-1, its been a real game changer for curious George... we are still waiting on camhs too... we asked for an appointment in December 2017... they gave us an appt in feb 2019, we were away and had to turn it down and go back in the system... we've managed to access post adoption support fund though and accessed family futures who have been helpful. over and out choti xx
