So this time around we are still only in the family finding stage however just suddenly started to think about when introductions come around. Babybug is on the school SENCo register as he is behind in most areas so when is does eventually get to the introductions stage I would really rather not take him out of school. Just wondering if anyone has had experience with second time adoption with school age children and requested if intros could take place in school holidays? Will obviously be contacting our SW regarding this. Looking unlikely at present that we will get a match within our agency which is 60 miles away from where we live anyway so have been looking all over the country. Could well mean staying away from home for the duration of introductions!

Hi ladybug, exciting times for you xx
Your l/a must love you especially as you are a distance away from their normal catchment.... when I was going thro the process there were often issues about placing some l/o's a good distance away from birth family & relatives, so you will be so well placed for this...
As for your Q about babybug... If intros are out of area how will babybug be able to relax & be settled if you both are away? Such a massive addition of a sibling needs to be shared with him from the get go?..... your sw will deffo have strong views about it.... Great that you are coming up with plans in anticipation.... maybe school hols will be a preferred option anyway, or if a baby intros may only be a few days, so very little time out of school & routine for babybug xx....
Hugs & lots of luck to you all xxxx

I think it would be more important for him to be included in intros than to attend school. I get he is behind but time off won't make that much difference to his learning in the long term and being left out / away from you could be disastrous.
As it happens our second child was placed at the beginning of the summer holidays which was ideal (other than that it was the only summer ever that we haven't been away on holiday!). We didn't arrange it like that - we'd been waiting for matching panel for months.

Thanks Milly. I agree that it is important that BB is very much included in intros. I did email our SW to ask about requesting whether intros could be in school holidays and was told it wasn't possible which I guessed would be the case. i have written to the head teacher explaining the situation and that we will keep her informed of our progress.
