I just booked an initial appointment with Relate.
Our family is so complex and I need some help setting boundaries. As a Mum who has been at home for almost 30 years (actually done a LOT of voluntary work especially helping at 2 schools and 2 home ed groups and of course 9 years home ed), I feel I need to put in some boundaries and need some help with that. I am thinking some family therapy may come out of my sessions at Relate, if DH and DD are willing, and maybe our son with mental health issues who we are supporting financially...although I think a separate appt for DH, DS and me without DD for that purpose.
Anyway as all of our children are adults (if you count the 18 year old who is at home) except Dash and of course he is at school now (its been a year!) life is different for me. I have no desire and no need to work outside the home so its not about that but the boundaries have been blurred over the years. Everything revolves around everyone else to possibly an unhealthy degree. A bit of tweaking is necessary methinks!
DH works long hours though it has to be said he is flexible and we tend to do Dash's appointments/meeting together. But I am not really happy with the amount of time its just Dash and me at home of an evening (and maybe DD who refuses a meal and spends the whole evening in her room...usually not always). Hopefully her depression will lift now she is on medication and counselling is being arranged.
This morning I realised that I am concerend about leaving DD alone in the house while we go away. We try not to as she is so vulnerable. But this weekend has been in the diary for a year so we are going.
Anyway I have an appointment on Tuesday!
