Well for the second time in a month the snow is here again.....and well it seems to trigger some stuff in my two.
Day off school today and I took them to the park with sledge, promise of snowman building and other snow fun.
Fast forward one hour later. Lapwing has had tantrum/meltdown over the fact I might have thrown more snowballs at Peewit than her, plus Peewit stole some of her snow, Peewit sobbing tragically because 'Snowy' his 'snowball' might melt....he trudges along draggy 'snowy in this sledge, weeping, whilst Lapwing screams that her feet are so painfull she may die, until suddenly she sees a friend from school when amazingly she stops screaming and says ' Hi Scarlet'.... before screaming once more....Peewit meanwhile will not come out of the 'shade' as 'snowy' will not live in the sun......Suffice to say after what seemed an ETERNITY of this...I lost the plot and shouted, told Peewit that 'snowy' was a lump of snow and would melt and could not live in our freezer.... then I dragged them home and had a large coffee......

That's a wonderful write up. Most parents would not be able to empathise but many adoptive parents do empathise. Both sad and funny.

School open today and as we trudged to school, Peewit said in an enquiring tone of voice....Mum....? I replied.... 'I already know what you are going to ask and the answer is NO I will not look after your lump of snow while you are at school.......' He replied....' but could you just make sure he doesn't melt....'
Snowy has melted and is now at one with the grass......... RIP. xxx

Hope you give him a good send off. I’d have weeping and wailing and speeches and flowers for where He lays !;-)

Mean Mummy!! Surely you could have found some room in your freezer (and heart) for Snowy. And now he is no more..... Do you know the Shirley Hughes story about when Alfie had a stone that he made a bed for out of a matchbox (I think) and then he lost him. He had a name which I've forgotten. Does anyone else know that story? I am wracking my brains now.....

yes I do know that story!
The thing is with Peewit, everything touches his heart, a stone he might find becomes stoney my beloved stone, he gives me endless leaves which have special meaning, he has 120 soft toys...all of which he can not live without...
it is very loving but I am trying to teach him that only SOME things/people are special....not everyone/ thing is speacial...
he was moved around in foster care 9 times, so you can easily understand why he has a need to immediately invest things with meaning.... BUT as well as that he DOES have a very loving heart and part of it is about HIM being special...but I always refer back to him...e.g. I love snowy the snowball but I love you even more......
Tonight it was a piece of wool that was special.......wooly the piece of wool....perhaps it is Peewit telling me he desperately needs to feel special....

That must be very trying mudlark and sad as well. But it sounds like you're very therapeutic about it.

its sort of endearing lots of the time but yes trying and exasperating the other half of the time....we try and see it as part of who Peewit is..100 soft toys and all....!

I absolutely love this idea Lily thank you so much for sharing. I shall definately be getting the children to paint and hide some stones over Easter... that is of course if Peewit can bare to part with his stone!
