Following on from Runmum's thread I wondered if I could ask about the following:- LO is currently excluded from her mainstream school. SS have arranged for her to attend a respite centre for "alternative education" 3 half days a week as an interim measure until a long term solution can be decided upon. We're happy with the type of provision but it's almost an hours travel each way so by the time I have dropped her off and come home there's very little time before I have to set off again. Is this something for which we could request transport? I've noticed that the other children that attend the centre are collected by the centre's minibus.

You can try. If they have suggested the placement then I think you could argue they need to provide the transport. Do you know if any transport goes from local to you? If so ask for LO to be put on that transport.

Update on this is that transport is arranged from next week - and the LA are funding an additional harness so that we don't have to remove the one we bought from her car seat every day. Another step forward....

Even more of a celebration is that the LA transport manager is coming to see us with the proposed driver and his vehicle prior to the transport starting so that LO can meet the driver and car before having to travel.

Just shows what you can get by asking - well done!!! (And yah, more respite for you!)
