What do people think ....
we have had the books and tonight just watched several episodes on dvd with Lapwing and Peewit...Lawping LOVES horrid henry and quite clearly identifies with him.
Is allowing them to watch Horrid Henry helping them to see I am accepting of their ' inner Henry' or just giving them ideas for yet more mischief and a wider vocabulary of insults!

I have to say that I did ban horrid Henry. Behaviour always deteriorated here when he watched it.

My girls have both watched it in their time and Dd2 has read many of the books. It irritates me but I never noticed it leading to anything. Dd2 is quite capable of being "horrid" without needing any role models!! (The only character I've ever felt she modelled herself on slightly is Karen from Outnumbered. She has the same argumentative approach at times!)

AS used to love these and they were a godsend for his nightly hourly 'meditation' on the loo (necessary medical procedure) becoz the audio version lasted just an hour. but he only ever saw the humour in them and not the potential to do similarly himself (severe learning disability bonus I guess!). but my eldest BS, banned, as was the simpsons, tracy beaker and a number of other progs around at the time. no idea of how to separate the real and acting, very intelligent but on the AS, admittedly low on it but enough to struggle with abstract ideas and to separate reality from fantasy. his behaviour deteriorated enormously when he watched any of them (or read in the case of horrid henry. guess a lot depends on the child. personally I dislike HH, but dislike perfect peter even more!

I preferred 'My naughty little sister'. A good portrait of a small girl, and one my DS enjoyed a lot.

They love 'my naughty little sister', I was also read this as a child. The language is a bit dated and the parenting style not very therapeutic!! but my two laugh at her antics.
Since we watched a few episodes of Horrid Henry they have not asked to see it again...My own view was that Henry himself was rather likable..it was the feeble parents that irritated me...anyway we may shelve him for a while.
We have moved onto Moomins....altogether much much nicer!
