and a very ugly duck at that...we were out completing our home schooling, a birdwatching diary, involving a lovely walk down to the estuary and over some wetland and marshes ending with jam donught for her and coffee for me. At one of the bird hides we heard a racket being made by a flock of canada geese. We went to investigate and they seemed to be picking on a Muscovy duck. The geese flew off leaving the fairly shy duck cowering under a tree. Lapwing immediately said we should stay and check the duck was ok. I settled down on a sunny tree stump and watched while she built a nest from grass and twigs for the duck.
This was three weeks ago. every week since we have returned to the same spot, and blow me, but the duck is still there obviously waiting for Lapwing! and so each week she carries on building the nest. The duck seems to like it......
She who hates her photo being taken has insisted I take numerous photos of her and the duck. A very shy duck and a shy little girl seem to have taken to one another!

Lovely. There's a great video of a girl and her duck going about Facebook. They sleep together, go out for the day together, etc.

Do you have any pets at home mudlark ?
There's so been a piece recently about an autistic girl and her cat. The cat goes everywhere with her, more like a dog.
A special pet might be really good for her

Ironically she is allergic to cats, dogs infcat anything with fur or feathers. It is a real shame

Oh what a shame
Fish? Tortoise ? At least you don't have to take them for walks, I find watching our fishies quite calming

as if reading our minds ( or this board!) This afternoon someone from up the road put a flier through the door saying.... 'perfect pets...stick insects £1 each'
it's Lapwings birthday in a couple of weeks......! ( but might go down like a lead balloon!)
