I am going to be 50 tomorrow! I can hardly believe it but there it is, half a century lived.
As I reflect on it all the one thing I am sure of is that my two children will help shape the rest of my life, and nothing is going to be predictable!
Many women I know, younger than me, are already Grandmothers, ( several on here!) but I feel happy I came to motherhood late, as despite the heartache in getting here, the result, Lapwing and Peewit, on the days they give me joy exceeds all other happiness I have known.
So what is Mr M giving me for this auspicious birthday....its something I have never had, something I am slightly nervous about, something that will change my life....driving lessons.....! yep...finally I have succumbed, the children will be gobsmacked when I tell them.....I cant wait to see their faces at the thought of their old mum behind the wheel!

Happy Birthday for tomorrow mudlark.
Significant birthdays do make you think - I know I did with my 40th last year....Often wander where I will be in 9 years time - given what happened between my 30th & 40th birthdays....

Happy Birthday!! When I was 50 I started to understand the saying that this life is not a rehearsal and vowed to make the most of every day. Well done you for starting to learn to drive, it will open up a whole new world for you.

Good luck with the driving lessons. Just think, pretty soon you will be able to jump in the car and drive away to get respite

Happy Birthday !
Well done you on going for your driving lessons
Recently I have had a huge confidence crisis. Wouldn't drive at night, only certain routes etc. Then we bought a different car which was an automatic. my confidence has returned. So if you do a few lessons and think I don't like this.................... try an automatic . You CAN and WILL do it
hope you are eating at this very moment

Thanks everyone....they were indeed speachless for a few seconds when I told them this morning that I was going to learn to drive. But pretty quickly Peewit said....".you could get a flying car...." well maybe I'll master the highway code first!
Chocolate cake tonight!

Happy birthday Mudlark, congratulations on reaching the land mark Hawaii 50, now that dates me! Good luck with the driving lessons, I started driving relatively late and have never looked back. Don't think I would be up for a flying car though, the thought of the driver less cars they have trialled near us send my OCD into overdrive Have a great day x

If you have the money ready I advise you to take at least 2 lessons every week. (3 even better), that way you have a higher chance of passing after a relative short period. One lesson a week and you 'start' again every week.

Happy birthday!!!
I only learnt to drive when I was approved, in an attempt to be ready for when little missy arrived! I hated driving when I was 17 but as soon as I started this time around I loved every minute of it. I have been driving just over three years and have done more than 50,000 miles!
