Just to add to DD's range of odd behaviours an old one has returned and a new one has started.
old one - saying random words that link in her head for a long time without drawing a breath. Its like the word association game where one person says a word and the next person has to say the first word that comes into their head that is associated with the first word. We had about thirty words for different parts of the body, followed by place names, boys names, girls names, purely random words to me. she gets more and more worked up as she goes on. If you try and stop her too soon she goes ballistic and is uncontrollable but if you leave it too long she does the same. When you stop her at the right time she collapses onto you and is exhausted and often falls asleep.
new one - she has started seeing everything in colours which relate to how they make her feel or describing herself as a colour depending on how she feels.
Has anybody come across either of these before?

Don't know much but there are people that see things in colours can't remember what it is called but it is real. There is also a famous musicaian who name passes me by at the moment who sees music in colour. So I would not dismiss this but have no experience my self.

I think the colour thing may be called synesthesia, definitely something there
Simba chants random words, not quite in the same way, but totally random, can be individual words, phrases, bits of songs, he can go for hours

Yes - synesthesia. My dad has it, he sees words in colours. It doesn't bother him at all in fact he seems to quite pleased about it. My niece has it also in the same form...her brother is ASD and I suspect she may be too. You can get it in other forms too, the artist Kandinsky heard colours as music.

Synaesthesia is amazing, I worked with 'psychoses' in patients who displayed it. Their art work was something else.

Wonder if the word association stuff is stress related ? And could some sort of artistic outlet for the colours thing help ? Just grasping at straws for ideas here, but maybe worth thinking about ? My ds2 sometimes latches onto a phrase , which he tries out in various tones of voice - latest is "get in my belly!!"

ah they joys of our wonderful children!
she is stressed at the moment - very tired all the time and finding the new school and new country difficult to deal with. Now you mention it, she often draws very bright pictures and has not done this for a while - thanks for that thought Pingu - I'll get out the colouring stuff tonight!
