Am seriously considering taking LO out of school until the end of term. Her anxiety is sky high and they are responding inappropriately with report cards and isolation. We've already been asked to pick her up early from school each day. Are we allowed to remove her completely until the end of term due to mental / emotional illness?

Def take her out of you feel it's damaging. If you can, get her signed off from docs, to stop school hassling you about unauthorised absences. But just protect her from the unstructured chaos that the end of term can be... Hugs to you both... There are so many kids that fund the end of terms completely dis regulating... Can't believe schools are still isolating and punishing distressed children

Of course you should be able to take your child out - this can be sickness absence surely. Mental health/emotional difficulties are just as important as physical illness. Now of course if she DID have D&V for a day or 2, then she wouldn't be able to come back into school until clear of any symptoms for 48 hours.......... That would cover the last week of term probably! Good luck.

Yes! Get doctor's note just in case. We have done this, though with much older child. Today school have asked us to keep her home for the rest of term (they can't insist but we think it is for the best) as her anxiety is now running out of control. TBH, we are worried what she might do if we don't. (She's 14 so possibilities are horrendous)

I know people say 'get a drs note' but sick notes ( MED3) are only issued to sign a person off sick from employment NOT school. Your GP may write a private letter/note for your school but it isn't part of a GP's NHS contract to issue this, so if they do it for free then you have a generous GP! It is considered a private service, and as such,if your school insist on a DRs certificate then the school should pay for the Drs note. Sorry if this sounds pedantic, but Drs get asked to issue notes for all sorts of things that aren't covered in their NHS contract - I have yet to meet a solicitor who will write lots of notes for lots of people for free.....
As far as taking your child out of school, if you say they are ill, they are ill. The school shouldn't challenge you about short term sickness of up to 7 days.

Google infectious childrens diseases. How about conjunctivitis, that's highly infectious and should buy you a few days and then "you won't believe it she's only gone and got a tummy bug on top"! That should buy you 5 days off if GP can't help.

I agree take her out of school, ..... you can just say she's run down, anxious, prone to pick up infection , she's been sick this weekend etc..the white lie does not matter...her mental health does. Really feel for you, these last weeks of school are really stressful. xx
