This is unusual ...
Both Lapwing and Peewit both looked happy to see me when picked them up from school..
both had bright eyes, they chatted... they came home had a snack..they changed out of school clothes without argument...they came downstairs.
They sat at the table where I had prepared big bits of paper and paints to do a 'tree of life' with hand prints... they loved it and really enjoyed getting messy and filling the paper with colour ....we did it for an hour..no squabbling...they were proud of the end results.
I was even prouder..
they managed two transitions.. from school to home...from task to end of task..without any problems at all. It will not last...but I treasure that afternoon as a lovely bit of their childhood... I hope they do too.

Peaceful and happy, and you knew it at the time Sometimes I was so busy managing the boundaries and worrying about future aggression, l didn't enjoy the sunlit bits when my children were young. Well done to you for being properly present.

That's really lovely. And it can bring such hope because you see that it's in there somewhere!

Thank you. I have had 4 days of a really lovely time with Lapwing....that is ages in our life.. 4 days where she has wanted me, been sweet, funny, cheeky ..no edge at all... just a little girl who wanted her mummy... I am almost in shock... she has never allowed me to call her by any term of endearment...just got very angry if I said darling, sweetheart. lovely. angel etc....but today she asked out of the blue could I sometimes call her 'peachy poppet'...her amazing little brain..I really still don't know how it works!
