Some of you will know that we've come under pressure during the last 9 months to get LO out of nappies at night. The school's parent liaison officer and the SENDCO have been quite damning at our suggestion that we have had other battles to win and made us feel quite inadequate that we hadn't tried hard enough to help LO to feel and be "grown up". We dug our heels in and refused to engage in the programmes they wanted to commence as we felt that without LO's understanding or want to achieve this goal there was no point. Approx. 6 weeks ago LO suddenly announced that she didn't want to wear nappies. I challenged her to produce dry pull ups every morning for 5 days thinking that she wouldn't be able to do it - but she did. Since then, she's not had a nappy on at night at all and we've only had one wet bed which was early on. We're so pleased that she's achieved this milestone and it has helped her to feel more grown up (sadly though I don't think it's something we could offer for an achievement assembly mention!).

Hello
I really think it is outrageous of school to be so insensitive! Your SENCO needs some training, since when do traumatised adopted children need to feel 'grown up'.. mostly they have barely had a childhood.
But well done your LO on making the decision herself. Lapwing did the same thing just stopped wearing them.. followed by Peewit. I felt a bit sad they stopped wearing them, I don't want them to grow up too quickly, they have had such little time to be properly cared for.

Yes, the Golden Pants award might be misconstrued at an achievement assembly

Poor form on their part but you were proved right, it was when she was motivated to do it that success came, well done both of you x
