A very able and willing group of volunteers came from church fitted out new counters, upcycled and generally recycled our decrepit kitchen. Made our front gate escape proof. And painted a very bashed up room with Extreme Clean paint, marvellous stuff takes all horrid marks and unmentionable things thrown at it and cleans without a stain or mess. Even better children attended a disability play day run by volunteers and then three people took the children associated to us and our volunteers for the afternoon and wore them out.I have a fairly functional kitchen, and feel like we have been blessed by so many people's generosity this weekend, accepting and welcoming our family in New ways....we even had supper made for us! Smug yes....grateful yes, happy yes! In this way the 'Home for Good' network starts to work for us all.

Excellent!
The only info I had seen about 'Home for Good' suggested that people could support it by giving financially to the organisation, or publicising it in their church. There was no mention of supporting adopters in such a practical way, so its great to hear that this sort of thing is happening :-)

I believe it's really all about promoting fostering and adoption. If churches get together in one area they can operate an effective support network and share resources, speakers etc. It is about encouraging people of faith to consider adoption or fostering and offering them wrap around care in the broadest sense when they do.Also and most importantly perhaps it's for people who may be non church to feel fine approaching the HFG for support. There are 'Champions' of the network in each region who are working hard to promote the welfare and home life of children, and all of us 'grown ups'. We had help because of a church community action team that is unrelated to HFG but as I had spoken on Adoption Sunday about our family I believe people really wanted to be involved in a way practical to them. But there are three families proceeding through the adoption and fostering in our church now and this is directly linked to the HfG and Adoption Sunday profile.
