Had a meeting in July to discuss Mackerel's statement. It was proposed that it be amended to say that he needed a one to one timetable, and everyone agreed (including representatives for the LA). The LA decided not to amend the statement, so we've appealed to the tribunal. We have a date for the appeal to be heard: April next year. So only 9 months from the date of the meeting...

That's the problem with the whole system ...... it moves so slowly and everything takes so much time and has to go to boards for funding etc ..... and in the meantime your child is left floundering and becoming more and more detached from reality as time ticks away ....... and they wonder why parents become exhausted from fighting to get help and why some just walk away and give up because they can't take it anymore and end up exhausted ......

In the meantime... school are doing the one to one timetable as well as they can, but without funding. Meanwhile Mackerel is clocking up exclusions. We think that he needs more specialist provision (which we've said in the appeal). The care home have also come to this conclusion and there's a professionals meeting next week to discuss it. And no, of course we're not invited. Why on earth would we have anything that we could possibly contribute?

Professionals meetings - don't talk to me about them.
Wouldn't I love to be a fly on the wall during one of them, actually probably not, but at least they will know that yourself, and Kermit are not the type of parents to be fobbed off. The fact that you are experienced parents with 4 BC will show them that you do know what you are talking about and you do know how to parent successfully as your BC are living proof.
Let's hope they come back with some positive suggestions for the way to move forward.

So, the biggest professionals involved in your childs life - you - are not invited to these meetings - genius! The system is just so wrong isn't it?

The system is just so wrong isn't it? It certainly seems daft to me! I understand that there are some times when the professionals need to get together without us, but for this particular one, I think we have valuable insights. I have written an email to the care home and social worker with my views on his school placement. Hopefully one of them will read it and feed it into the meeting. I'd like to start a sweepstake on when anyone lets us know the conclusions. I'm going for Thursday week after repeated phone calls and emails from us.
