My AD, soon to be 18, is considered a Care Leaver so SS continue to have a duty of care. Her Older Looked After Child SW will remain involved and offer support where possible - at the moment we are waiting for a tenancy support worker to help her find her own place and provide ongoing assistance.
Meanwhile her fosterplacement will change to supported lodging on her 18th birthday and she will have to apply with SS help for housing benefit/income support to support herself. Other options have been tabled such as shared accommodation. If she remains in education SS can be involved for a number of years. This is all very barmy as she is spending an increasing amount of time at home!
Not sure how much help will actually materialise, support of Mum and Dad remains key. Is Blossom really not eligible for anything after she turns 18? Awful if that is the case.

If things work the same way as they do here- she will get housing benefit paid straight into the accommodation, ESA and DLA , which should be enough so no one has to fund anything if its supported living - its how shadettes place is funded and her income work - are there supported places for folk with ASD? - with her ASD and MH will she not get a SW on either the disabilities team or MH teams?

blooming terrible. Have to say ds2 had really good support (after lots of fighting) and all though not seamless does have a good care package carer 4 x a week and one weekend a month respite. But managed to get him into disability team. lots of his peers ( not adopted)offered supported living
dd another kettle of fish absolutely nothing except her benefits. she is under adult mental health and they can offer her nothing even though they stated she would never live independently .Fighting this as we speak.I think this is the hardest stage of getting support.
may re think that when I need support when I cant look after myself tempted to commit a crime and go to prison as will be better looked after then OAP home lol

Hi Peartree I am a little confused by your posting. At 18 Blossom will be a care leaver and will be entitled to Housing benefit, jobseekers or Income support. As you know our ad2 was in residential from 15 to nearly 18, and this is what happened once leaving the residential home. You are correct in that SS do not support her financially any more, but the benefits system then kicks in. As a care leaver she will be given priority for independant housing, and I think you will find that she will have SS support for a few years yet - albeit spasmodically. You will not have to finance anything yourselves. Having said that my ad costs me a fair bit each year, as I help her, but that is my choice. Hope this helps Best wishes Spring x
