Well we got on our smart clothes last night and went up to parents night at ds2 new school. Its an independent school and we have a partial bursary. We took the chance of moving him there as we felt strongly that it was the right school for him and that he would struggle with the huge local secondary next year, that his brother is at. They are very different children.
Anyway , the teachers were lovely (the class has two) we were told he has fitted right in from day one and is getting on well with his classmates. He is not afraid to ask for help . They had stressed to him that he shouldn't worry if he hasn't covered some aspects of maths and that there will be things he has done that they haven't as schools do things in different order. He is now being completely open to her, about what he doesn't know, when a new subject arises, rather than getting stressed about it , as he used to. The main teacher says he has a good sense of humour, whereas his notes when he came here, said "sense of humour not there yet" so it's real progress. teacher also said it was the right year to move as he needs to get used to organising himself and his homework before secondary next year !!! She also said they are very pleased with him, and are all " gunning for him"
This is all fantastic to hear, as, not only does it confirm that we were right to move him, but also , if he continues to do well, then hopefully they will want to keep him and be willing to up the bursary next year when our income drops. his older brother told me yesterday that ds2 had said to him that he didn't think he would cope with older brothers school. Interesting that he recognises this for himself. We are now really really hoping for a positive outcome on the finance that will let him stay there, we think it could make a huge difference to how he makes it through his teens, But even if he has to move , this year will have increased his confidence and hopefully his organisation!
its not been an easy transition, he was massively stressed by homework levels and early starts, and he came home like a little volcano sometimes, but went back after half term quite happy to take things in his stride. I am immensely proud of our King Penguin ( and Emperor penguin too, who has just completed a very successful work placement including a sizeable commute as the school placed him a long way away.)
happy colony at the moment !!!
