Things had all been going reasonably well for us. AD1 is having home leave from her secure hospital and has started on the pathway to discharge, via an open adolescent mental health unit. Has appeared as well as we have seen her since before she first went into hospital 2 years ago. AD2 has also been doing well - motivated and working hard. Trying to get into the army (unlikely given her mental health, but apparently she has done the best interview the recruiter has had), keeping in touch with us regularly and seeking home leave.
Then last week it was our first family therapy session and it has all gone belly-up. During leave (lunch out at McDs) following the therapy session, they went to the toilets and ate hash! AD1 disclosed this soon after being returned - apparently cos AD2 told her to tell! In fact AD1 telling afterwards was a condition of AD2 giving AD1 the hash. Then, AD2 leaves site 2 days later and is missing for several hours. AD1, meanwhile, has a number of "incidents" resulting in her home leave being cancelled. On Sunday night DH took AD1 out for dinner and became uneasy because her behaviour suggested she was planning something. So he returned her promptly.
It became apparent yesterday (each placement and us at home reached the same conclusion, independently) that there seems to be something being planned by the girls. They spoke on the phone yesterday (unsupervised, it seems) and have raised concerns with their comments. There are suspicions they may be planning to run off and seek their birth family. And now AD2 has left site (but is currently in sight of the carer). Just when we started to get optimistic that we might have turned a corner.
