AD arrived for weekly weekend stay in a bit of grump which continued over tea with everyone else getting it in the neck. Decided to take her to Tesco to buy pizza bases for tea tomorrow to partly change the scene and get her to ask about the jobs they had been advertising.
On way did some wondering about what she was scared about and left it at that. Then turned up radio and started singing. Once parked at Tesco stayed in car with Don’t Stop by Fleetwood Mac blaring and me boogying to the music, best you can in the driver’s seat! Putting the seat flat back helps. Strange looks from other shoppers!
Eventually she joined in and then both of us were boogying in the car – thus needs temporarily met we “did” Tesco, me still being a bit silly over things – lots of skipping involved - good job I don’t allow myself to be too embarrassed in public when dealing with her!
Returned home, AD apologised unprompted to DH for behaviour at tea time – world is at peace once more.
Why does it have to be so complicated? What would it be like if I couldn’t skip?

PS Now just need to get her to complete the job application form!

Wouldn't it be great if we allowed ourselves to be happy - to skip in public, to move to our music, to shout , "Yes!" when something good happens to us, like finding our favourite chocolate is on offer!

What's stopping you Corkwing? Lovely moment to treasure Mooster. We often get so caught up in our childrens trauma and issues that Spontaneous moments like these need to be treasured and stored in our own memory banks to be remembered when the going gets tough. To hell with what the other shoppers thought, they saw a mum and daughter having fun and were probably wishing they could be like you .... if only they knew the whole story ... Enjoy it while you can I say.

If you couldn't skip Mooster you would have hopped...us adoptive parents with quirky kids are a resourceful lot. Hold onto that memory.

On holiday, I saw a mum and her daughter, probably aged about 8, walking past the pool one morning. They stopped, looked at each other, grinned, dumped their bags down and jumped into the pool fully clothed, shoes and all.
It was fab, I laughed so much.
Then they just climbed out giggling and carried on their way.
I want to be that mum!

Thank you for all your replies - Corkwing I get it, sometimes I think I have forgotten how to be spontaneous and happy - conversations and even this skipping with AD feel so planned. Sooz I too wish I was that Mum that could jump in the pool and know things would be ok.
Anyway, decided to put my skipping to better us and am going to try a Ceroc class this week - now deciding whether to include AD in my plans or just do it for me - In my "normal" world I always had dreams of us doing this sort of thing together - she would enjoy it and it would be good for her, but what about me? Perhaps I will give her the choice as I don't really mind which she picks.
Happy skipping

Ceroc sounds like a fab idea Mooster for you in any case.
Not sure many 17 year olds will like dancing with their mum though, but you can always ask and even if she says no, do it for you.

Hope you enjoy the Ceroc, Mooster. Is that some sort of dancing?
I didn't skip today - I was wearing sandals (without socks!) - that are a bit floppy. But I did move to the musician playing in the market place and didn't care. I ignored the fact that it's Kermit's thin, really, and allowed myself to really enjoy the beautiful crafts and smiled at some of the stallholders. It was lovely to get some big smiles back.
