Thought I'd start a thread for members to add any ideas they find for creating sensory rooms for their children.
Please add your finds/recommendations. To view pics at a larger scale, just click on pic.

Not so much sensory but had a chill out room for when children raging.plain dim lit calm room- no pictures, harsh colours.cushions to sit on so if thrown I did not get hurt.did have electric oil burner for relaxing smell,a speaker so relaxing music/visualisation CD could be heard and a lava type lamp. One of the best things I did.dd could rage for your here if she was not in running away more.
now days has bit more in it but is still our relaxing room.

No pics for now, but some more ideas from my friend who's an OT specialising in sensory issues...
- a pull up bar attached to a door frame, preferably with other attachments eg rings, trapeze for hanging upside down - home made crash mat - two single sheets sewn together and stuffed with old pillows, cushions, duvets - an exercise ball for doing homework/ watching TV - a large piece of stretch Lycra to get wrapped up in and try to escape! Can also be made into impromptu tunnels, or attached to a door frame to run into and bounce off - a spade hopper (easier to use indoors than a trampoline) - hammocks, indoor or out
If anything else occurs to me I will add it!

Another simple idea is too make playdough and add calming oils, e.g some lavender. Dough is great as kneading is very therapeutic..
Ebay sell sensory bags very cheaply which have an assortment of items too.
