Apart from a few (strap them down type) sports bras I cant think of the last comfy bra I've had Most months I need two different cups sizes depending where I am in my cycle. Am I oddly shaped ?? I'm b or c Nothing fits. Expensive or cheap. Wired or non wired. After a while they all fail. hardly a problem but needed to whinge. Almost Resisted the get it off my chest remark ! ? Has anyone ever had them made for them ? Was it expensive ?

Mumsnet have a thread running about getting the right fit. The old method of fitting is to measure under your bust and add 4 inches, then around the bust for the cup size. Now they are saying the measurement under bust is your actual size, then bend over at 90 degrees and measure the bust. So I went from a 38/40 A cup to a 36DD using this method. I only bought a couple of cheap bras to test and they actually fit quite well and amke a difference to my appearance. They go on a bit about "scooping" too which brings the bit of fat from around your back and under your arms into the bra cup. Sounds odd but again it does make a difference. So, going on the recommendations you are probably an F cup in a smaller back size.

I agree with you Cowgirl, sports bras are definately the most comfy but they do tend to make you look very rounded and shapless. I can't tell you how many downright awful uncomfortable bras I have thrown out over the years, which is why if I find a half comfortable one I immediately go out and buy about 4 of them, but then they all start to fail around the same time and often when you go to replace them you can't get the same ones as they are not still stocking them or whatever. I had a friend who worked in a well know major department store and she was trained in bra fitting. We were round her house one night talking about how hard it was to get a comfortable one and she volunteered to measure all of us much to our OH's amusement and she then sent each of us a free bra in our size and I had to confess to her later on, it was soooooo uncomfortable I never wore it, it just didn't fit!! At least I hadn't paid for it, but that's my point, she was a trained fitter and the bra was awful, so uncomfortable! Also if you go to 3 different shops and get measured by 3 different people, chances are you will be told different sizes, this is what bugs me, it varies so much you don't know who to believe and is why most people just buy whatever feels comfortable and be done with it. I did think a better fitting bra does give you a better shape and can knock years off you if it fits well, but it is just so hard and time consuming to keep having to go in and out of dressing rooms getting dressed and undressed all the time that most people give up. Maybe we should all go to Rigby and Pellar the Queens bra fitters and at least get measured there and then go to Marks and buy our bra's in the size they recommend. Perhaps in the future you will be able to stand in front of a machine that will scan you and then make a bra to fit, now wouldn't that be wonderful?

Add weight loss in the mix & it's a nightmare!?!.... Hoping to get myself measured soon tried homebirds method down to 36 apparently but got a bit lost trying to measure the lumps..... Always have had big trouble with cup size... & that was before gravity & 5/2!!??..
So still a bit stumped... Need the famous scaffold support from way back when 'eh larsti , shadow et all....
Any tips on lump measurement much appreciated... ( how many do I add on + 4 like 36 size ??!! )

My last measurement was 32G but found 32 too tight when I bought one so got a couple of 34 G which feel much better. Plus different makes change their measurements, so a 32g in one make is too tight but in another it fits!
Washing them shrinks them a bit too, I find, and prolonged use stretches some..... It's a minefield! Lol
It seems so random.
Have found Freya quite comfy though xx

Ah cowgirl, I understand this search! And, well, .... the Prima Donna (Satin Seamless Underwire bra) changed my life. I'm a 32D so need some support but want shape. Seriously, it is so comfy, gives a nice shape and is very hard wearing!! (by that I mean long-lasting as I wear it constantly, um not the same bra, but the make..). Downside - they are expensive (though you can shop around) - but honestly they were the best purchase, completely worth it.

Think I'm stuffed then! That makes me a 28"!!
I had a sloggi bra once which was really comfortable - other than that I stick to m&s 32c seems to be fine.
John Lewis are supposed to be better at fitting than marks. Or bravissimo?

Strangely (well unexpectedly) I found some good bras from Avon. I've got 4 flesh coloured and 4 black underwired T shirt bras. The Avon lady said that people do get on well with Avon bras, once they've found the right size. The cups are made of a sort of foam!
Talking of bras.....the pretty ones seem useless to me as all the ribbons and lace are lumpy under t shirts or sweaters, which is what I usually wear. Who thought of putting a diamante trim right in the middle where it makes a lump through your T shirt?!!
I bought a couple of bras from TK MAXX which I think were Playtex. They seemed like the ultimate in comfort and support and had a sort of rigid plastic insert underneath the cup which gave a flattering shape, but was absolute agony after a while.

Triumph 'Doreen' apparently is supposed to be the ultimate non wired bra. I had one once but the shape was a bit 'pointy'

Yep with you there larsti I just hate those pointy jobs... Feel like madonna in her pointy thingy....
Still got to try & get it sorted.... Do the Avon ones have monster cup sizes or are they only in the friendly won't go near me no matter how much 5/2 ing I do?!?

My mother took me to get a bra fitted when I was 12/13 or so, I hated it! So never again, I just take something without lace or metal or plastic pins, and than try it on myself. My mother is from the generation that breasts were pinned under the chin and had 2 distinct pointy cone shapes, obviously she does not agree with my comfy choices! I buy one, wear it and if I do not feel it all day, than I buy 4.

Sorry but that one on the right looks evil! She looks like she's plotting something really nasty which involves big pointy things! Hiding WMD in those things if you ask me.

Chuckle chuckle at the photos
Well I'm still on a mission to find a decent bra, wired, noon wired I don't care. Can't have lace or any trim as that irritates my delicate skin ! I am sensitive - says on my deodorant ( heard that line in a movie once)
Spent today hitching a new bra so I did fall out of it. Cost a bomb too.
Avon have an offer on £4.50 so it's worth a go - thanks larsti.
Glad I'm not the only one

Visit 'Sadie the bra lady' - slightly more expensive but always fit, always comfy. All they do is LOOK at your back and then bring you a range of personally selected bras - and every one fits perfectly! Don't know how they do it but so worth it.

Having a very numb armpit due to surgery, and recently finishing radiotherapy, I'm in desperate need of a comfy bra. Didn't realise my bra was taking the skin off under there! No pain! Oops. Quick trip to docs for cream!
