E and BJ have been with us for over 12.5.yrs, adopted 11.yrs. So how come this am when I speak to a (really really , annoying and or stupid) booking clerk about needing to cancel some dental appointments at the dental hospital for EJ, this woman asks me if EJ was ever known by such and such a name (bm's surname) and after I say yes over 13 yrs ago, then says (sniggering) oh and what about such and such a name (bf surname name) So I say he is adopted. His NHS number and health files were merged after adoption as we live in the same health authority area that he was born in - so we made very very sure that , for example, a cleaner looking at a pile of notes would not see their birth name crossed out and ours instead over 10 yrs ago.
I asked to be put thropugh to the consultants sec and was told she would take my number and ask the sec to ring me but I needed to tell her why I wanted to change the appointments first - lots of huffing and puffing later (on my part) i give as little info as possible but said that unfortunetly, things are going to get a bit busy in the jellies household over the next few months and that will mean we will need to change his treatment. Give her my number - WHY : when she has the details on her effing screen. Afraid to say I lost it then when she asked `and you are?` Give my name `are you a relative?' I rather loudly and hysterically told her `I am EJ's mother` - she started giggling like a school girl telling me not to get stroppy and that she was......... thats as far as the phonecall went - I burst into tears and put the phone down . So now some 5 hours later, having just done week 3 of my mindfulness course , having typed this post and reread it - I am still very very cross. So I am now going to phone the manager of the medical records dept/ manager of the clerical staff to pass on my disdain. Oh - and no phone call from consultants sec - whats the bet she took umberance and did not pass on the message.

well jellies love you are a better woman than me...she would have got bot barrels down the phone and to be honest if I was near enough I would have popped in...rude nit wit...strong letter of complaint....and as for kids name....its your name...everything would have been changed over at AO, health have never asked, in fact the only perso that did ask was when we went to register our grandson. (((((j)))) go have a cuppa love.

SO angry on your behalf and you do not deserve it and she should not be treating anyone like that .how immature of her. not to worry you more but if the old info is on the files how do you know she is not related to EJ and BJ bf. If you have then energy a letter to the director as well. the woman needs training if they don't fire her.

I sooooo understand that one Jellies. When I get DD's adoption allowance every month from their LA it is still in their birth surname and it always bugs me and makes me feel like they are reminding me that they are still LAC and not really mine (even after 12 years!) and that will continue until they are 18

I got the phone number of the consultants sec and phoned direct at 3.15. Left a lengthy message with all the issues re changing EJ's type of treatment and why we need to do that. She is on hols but a lovely fellow sec phoned an hour later and as I whispered that I could not talk now as my boys were home from school and did not yet know why things were going to be busy - she said no problem, would you be able to ring us on Monday am? Yes says I. Sigh of relief. Then very long email to Children's PALS officer re this morning. Luckily did not have to go into huge detail as this young woman dealt with my poor experience when EJ went berserk and trashed the kids A&E dept back in June when the staff did not bother to read or understand his hospital passport !!!

That person was unconscionably rude and inconsiderate to you. I am relieved that the secretary responded more appropriately and helped.
I get very upset by the whole BF names on things too. It is so inconsiderate & my ADs hate it too.

You maybe have bigger battles than to complain to this woman, so if you'd like us to provide the wording for you I am sure we'd be more than happy to give her a piece of ALL of our minds!!
Just read your latest reply and see you have emailed a complaint now, but still, if there is anything we can add.... (would like to add a horned smiley but can't see one)!
Glad you have talked to someone understanding now - makes all the difference. xxx

Complaint logged and PALS officer right on it - lead nurse for disability (as EJ has a hospital passport and complex mental health problems) will be investigating both boys records/ merging etc. But already had an apology as although previous surnames from when they were babes can have a relevence to some medical issues today (12yrs later), the old records have no clincal bearing/significance to dental work. Therefore the clerk had absolutely no reason to go to on screen files that are several pages behind the front screen.

And; delightful conversation with Consultant paed dentists sec this aft. Totally gets where we are coming from re EJ's treatment and that it needs to be done differently than planned - will come back to me by Thursday this week with a date and time for the GA and treatment. Asked her how she knew I would be calling - said her fellow secretary had told her about my ansaphone message and her conversation late on Friday aft, AND that she had had an email from an inpatient booking clerk to say I wanted to cancel all appointments !!! So she really did not hear or take in one single word did she ? Had I not phoned the sec myself, one suspects that the appointments made may have been cancelled and nothing put in their place - as I said in my first sentence of the initial post - annoying and stupid woman !!
