Are they a real thing or an old wives' tale?
Starlet keeps saying her thighs hurt, it started at the weekend and I thought she was just tired but she's still saying it.
Calpol seemed to help. Just wondered if it could be as simple as that or if I should take it more seriously?
To put it in context, she has grown 17 cm in the last nine months, so if growing pains were going to hit anyone it would be her!

Yep they are most definately real. My DD's get them when they are having a growth spurt and usually in the legs.
I remember my younger brother getting them and writhing in agony in bed at night unable to sleep because of them.
He once grew an inch in a month!! He's now 6 ft 6.5 inches (2.1m) with size 14 feet!!!

Haha let's hope Starlet doesn't grow that much!
Calpol seems to have done the trick for tonight, together with measuring her and finding another cm taller!

Please don't assume that she is suffering growing pains.
A friend of mine did and was then told by a doctor that they don't exist.
Her son was seriously ill and later died.
I don't want to worry anyone but do check it out - just in case!

How awful.
Kipper gets pains in his feet at night, but not legs.
He wakes up crying and we have to rub them, but it's a mystery, especially as he won't allow a doctor to examine him.

Never had them myself, nor have my girls, but we are all on the petite side, so maybe it is about fast rates of growth.
Sockthing, could Kipper have cramp?
I go through phases of getting it at night, don't know why.

My AD hasn't mentioned them but then again, her being super-duper-petite, the rate of growth may be the issue as Milly says.
AD has only grown 26cm in the 3.5 years (yes YEARS) she's been with us.
I would dearly like to know what young starlet is feeding on!!!

It's ridiculous lol.
She eats anything and everything - whereas she came labelled as a fussy eater who would live on chicken nuggets. I can now count on one hand the number of times she has eaten chicken nuggets since she arrived, mostly on rare treat trips to McDonald's. She would live on fruit, salad, veg and cheese.
But yes... It is getting crazy, I daren't buy her many clothes in any given size, she almost skipped an entire size in winter!

Stig's physio says they exist.
We were told that bones grow faster than muscles and kids can suffer pain as a result. One of the teachers at school told me that many of their teenage pupils (especially boys) suffer.
However it wouldn't do any harm to get it checked out just in case there is a more serious underlying cause.

Was going to post the same as TPT - also told this by my physio friend.
One of my daughters regularly gets back pain when she has just shot up.
It's called muscle pull, apparently.

Just to add I did hear something on the TV this week about some kids having a lack of Vitamin D in their diet and they were having bone pain like rickets as a result of being deficient in Vitamin D.
Don't think Starlet comes into this as she has such a healthy varied diet, but the Dr. also said that the ricket like symptoms are coming back as children are spending too much time indoors on computers and not enough time outdoors in the sunshine.
He said they need at least 30 minutes in the daylight everyday.
Just thought I'd mention it for those whose kids aren't growing?
