Well, 3 weeks ago and after being approved in September, I had a call about a prospective match. A 3 week old baby.
They approached me as I had been approved for foster to adopt however final hearing had been set so plan was to aim for a straight adoption after final hearing. They were fairly confident but I was told to hold off buying things until final hearing. That happened yesterday. Matching panel is now set for Wednesday (next week), placement planning meeting on Thursday, I spend Thursday night with baby at FC's home and bring him home Friday!!!!
Yet we can't be seen to pre-empt panel decision so shouldn't start buying until Wednesday after panel, or Thursday morning after decision has been ratified (and hours before I meet him). Well, I have bought everything. I'm not concerned about matching panel. It's a perfect match as far as I can see and all SW's involved are very happy.
What a whirlwind!!!
I'm so excited, scared, in disbelief ...
I've told a few people but am so sick of people's reactions. Today I've heard 'you will have your hands full then' and 'Ahh, that's so sad'. Grrrr!! Yes I will have my hands full (I'm a single mum with a complex needs son) but have actually given this some thought, I'm not just adopting on a whim!! And yes, I guess it is sad, but heck, a congratulations would be nice!!
Anyway, rant over. It's nice to be able to share this with people who understand.
MommaBear (soon to meet her BabyBear :-)

Ah congratulations!!
That certainly is a whirlwind and as if you are going to leave the stress of buying everything until hours before you meet!!! Silly idea!
Lovely to see good news just before head hits pillow.

So pleased for you!!! Your feet musn't be touching the ground. I too would have run round the shops and bought everything, how could you not? Well you won't have time to post intro's now will you, you'll just have to update us when Babybear comes home instead if you get a chance. FAB news !!!

congrats, that is a very young bubba to bring home. I too would be shopping now, but keep the tags on and the receipts til you go to meet him. MP have been known to postpone, and until it is ratified technically you cant have planning meeting or 'intros' and babies grow sooooo fast that even a week or two delay could mean outgrown clothes (my eldest didn't fit anything I had bought for him and he was newborn!!). but congrats, and enjoy all the sleepless nights and rounds of bottles and nappies! (and snuggles and staring at him for hours on end!)

Thanks. I have been feeling a little sceptical as I only received the paperwork on the child (including medical report) yesterday. They couldn't release it until after final hearing. But it is as they had described to me. I have every faith in the dr who did it as I have known her for many years. Their reason for doing it all so fast is purely babies age. They want him moved as soon as possible so he can start making attachments. They have used the same procedures as in foster to adopt in order to make things move so fast and get an extra panel together, ratified same or next day etc. The only other reason for making it go a little quicker then planned (original plan was to do intros over next weekend and have second planning meeting Monday), is that FC's have plans which would mean he would have to move to another foster placement after Friday. We all agreed that would be very unfair for poor guy. They are private FC's so I do wonder if cost is playing a part but surely only in my (and baby bears) favour. I have been telling myself that this is to good to be true for the last 3 weeks. Expecting something to go wrong with every phonecall. But hats off to my LA, they have been fab and I really do believe they just want what's best for baby. So more shopping today . I am keeping tags on though. For now. X

How exciting!! Brings back memories of when we brought our daughter home. She was born in the early hours of Monday morning (BM was hubby's sister). We went to see her that night, heard she was going straight into foster care, and asked if she could come home to us. SS approved and she came home on Wednesday evening. We spent that day buying the essentials - bottles, steriliser, milk, nappies, sleepsuite and an outfit to wear. Social services gave us a bag of clothes and a carry cot and friends rallied round with other bits and pieces.
Happy but exhausting days - enjoy!!

and not to forget, down your back and down your cleavage, stuck in the little crevices of the sofa where you cant see them but can smell them, the poopy experiences where it just never seems to stop (squishy munchkin did one yesterday and by the time i'd finished dealing with it he had filled three whole nappies!). ah the joys of tinies!

A whirlwind indeed, incredible: tiny baby.....I wish, I wish I could go for younger....I just love spending all those hours holding and staring at them, wonderful. Pleased that there are no surprises in his report and that you have confidence in the known medic, very important. What an amazing time for you and your older boy.....enjoy the next few days of further final spending and bringing the little chap home, fab. x

Well, I had matching panel today. Had a unanimous yes. Decision should be ratified by 4pm tomorrow but I get picked up by SW at 12 to go and meet him. He lives a little way from me. I spend the night with him at FC's and picked up and bought home by another SW Friday morning. He is just 7 weeks. Apparently the fastest adoption in my LA. Feeling very lucky and looking forward to my last night of sleeeeep!!! :-)

Baby bear is beautiful and more perfect then I had dared imagine. I am spending the night with him at FC's and taking him home in the morning. I've fed, bathed and changed him and now listening to his lovely little sleepy noises next to me :-)

Thanks all.
It's going great. Still have to keep pinching myself. Only 4 weeks ago I got the call about a possible match, now he is here. He is more perfect then I had dared imagine. He smiles loads and is in a great routine thanks to his foster carers. He goes to bed at 7, has a dream feed and only wakes once in the night. He isn't a sicky baby at all which is fab.
He has been a little more grumpy today. It's easy to forget the impact the move may have had on him as he is so little. I think I may be underestimating the amount of sleep he needs so am going to try putting him to bed for regular sleeps tomorrow. His FC's house was very quiet so he was never disturbed from sleep. It's hard here with my other son and family wanting to meet him.
His SW is coming around tomorrow with paperwork so I can register him at docs, with health visitor etc. I didn't know I could register him with his new name!! Things happened so fast I didn't get to ask those sorts of questions! Officially introductions only finished today. On paper they said they have to be at least a couple of days although I had him home on Friday morning.
All in all I am a very lucky mummy and can't wait to watch him grow up :-)

Moo, I'm not fostering him, it's a normal adoptive placement. As with any adoption you have to wait 10 weeks before filing adoption order with court but that is the same no matter who you adopt or what age. I was approved for the foster to adopt scheme, which is why I was chosen. But because the judge was so keen to get BabyBear moved to perminancy soon a date was set for final hearing when he was just 10 days old. They went to court on the day he was born (Xmas Eve!). So it didn't need to be foster to adopt, just straight adoption. But I wouldn't have been chosen if I wasn't approved as foster to adopt as that was fall back plan they wanted. Soooo glad I agreed to foster to adopt now!! :-)
