for myself and youngest AS for a one night away. He's been desperate to fly and this is the only weekend that eldest son's favourite carer is available to look after him. Would take him too but he wouldn't really be bothered and it would be a lot of hard work. So just the two of us it is!

Only to Bristol but it means I could get home in a variety of ways if there is an emergency! But never been to Bristol and always wanted to and it was the cheapest for hotel and flight all in. Won't tell AS until a couple of hours before we go. Because eldest son has so much equipment we usually holiday in the van so this will be extra special as youngest AS sees flying as a proper holiday ;-)

Thanks all - getting quite excited now and youngest AS still doesn't know! Oldest AS is still awake and playing on my heart strings - not that he knows that we're going but is doing his best to make me feel guilty - totally oblivious to that fact!

All those stressful nights in the Travelodge have paid off! Only dodgy time was falling asleep but up 'til then fantastic. Managed the fact it was a surprise, loved the take off and the view before we were up in clouds. Said the bit where you stay up was boring (it is) and enjoyed pizza and a sugar rush from Pizza Hut. Trying to fit in Clifton suspension Bridge in the hour we have before flying tomorrow. All in all a successful trip. A few tears (from me) on parting from Big Fish but know he's in very capable hands. I find it really diifficilt that when he says goodbye (in his way) he has no concept that it really is a goodbye for 24 hours at least. But he's been fine and happy. So think we'll be doing this sort of thing again when carer is back with us in October.

Awh that's great Esty, glad Little Minnow enjoyed his first flight and soooo glad to see that you'll be doing this again in the future. It's good to get away and have some 1:1 time with LM. I'm sure Big Fish had a lovely time too being spoiled by someone other than Mum.

Sounds great esty! Bristol a great city, did you visit the SS Great Britain?
And so pleased it seems to have been handled pretty well by all...

We were on Clifton Suspension Bridge by 8.50 then into visitor centre before heading back to airport to catch the 1pm plane. A very short trip but just enough to test the water for both boys. Big Fish met us at the airport and carers had a sign for Little Minnow to welcome him back. That bought tears to my eyes that they understand the need to make it that bit extra special.
